Welcome

Streaky Bay Aquaculture (SBA) operates a land based abalone farm 10kms north of the Streaky Bay township, where they have ideal access to the pristine cool waters of the Great Australian Bight of South Australia.

SBA secured the site for its farm and all relevant licensing in 2000 and since have built a facility capable of producing 30 – 40 tonne / year.

SBA have adopted a modular approach to the future development of the farm, so that its expansion of infrastructure coincides with the growth of the stock, therefore achieving returns on capital expenditure more effectively.

The Directors of SBA have designed and developed the facility into one of the most efficient land based farming operations in the industry and endeavor to keep working towards even more efficient and cost effective systems into the future.

The Directors firmly believe that their initial goal of producing 100 tonnes annually, is only a few short years away.

SBA are producing top grade Abalone products from the Greenlip species (Haliotis laevigata) which are found growing in the wild nearby the farm site. The farm has the ability to produce its own stock from larvae spawned on site from adult brood stock, thus being a fully self sufficient farm from spat to grow out and harvest.

In recent years the company has established a close working relationship with Dover Fisheries in Adelaide, one of Australia’s largest Processors and Exporters of abalone products. This relationship has given Dover the confidence that SBA can deliver the quantity and quality of product, thus both parties have entered into a sales agreement for future harvests.
